About Roshan De Stone

Roshan studied Anthropology and Religion (BA) at SOAS, University of London, where she received a first-class honour in 2014. In 2016, she was awarded an academic scholarship to study International Human Rights Law (LLM) at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway. She was then awarded BPP’s ‘Future Leader’ full scholarship to study the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP. She went on to do the Legal Practice Course, passing with distinction.

She joined Wilsons in 2022 as a caseworker in the immigration department, completed her training contract and qualified as a solicitor in 2025.

Prior to joining Wilsons, Roshan worked as an investigative journalist and researcher across West Asia (Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey), North Africa (Libya, Tunisia and Egypt) and the Balkan region (Greece, Bosnia Herzegovina and Serbia).

In 2021, she carried out fieldwork in Iraq, Turkey and the Balkan region, researching the impact of border securitisation on human smuggling routes, trafficking networks and forced labour for the International Labour Organisation. She has won multiple awards for her work. Her investigation into the forced repatriation of Syrians refugees from Lebanon won first place in the Thomson Reuters Migration Media Award 2019. She was the screenwriter for the documentary ‘ Go Friend Go ’ investigating border violence and illegal pushbacks towards migrants and refugees at the EU’s external land borders. The film won the Amnesty International Film Award 2023, the Festivali dei Popolie Film Award 2023, and the FESCAAL Film Festival Award 2023. She has been published in Aljazeera , Independent , OpenDemocracy , The New Humanitarian , New Internationalist , France24 , The New Arab , Middle East Monitor , Al-Monitor , Jadaliyya , El Salto and The Bristol Cable .

She is Director of Brush&Bow , a platform for journalists, artists, academics, musicians and citizen journalists to collaborate to produce participatory research and multi-media journalism. She is also a Director of Desis Organise Bristol, an organisation to promote solidarity, learning and activism among the Desi communities in Bristol.

She worked for several years as a human rights monitor based in Palestine and on the Syrian-Lebanese border. She has worked as a caseworker for Unseen, providing advice for survivors of trafficking. She has also volunteered with Hackney Migrant Centre ’s Access to Justice team, SOAS Detainee Support , Southall Black Sisters , Reprieve and Micro Rainbow.
