About Ornina Kassem

Ornina joined Wilsons’ Public Law and Human Rights department in February 2023. She completed her law degree at the University of Kent, and worked various junior positions at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors (Public Law and Court of Protection) and ITN Solicitors (Actions against the Police and Civil Liberties) before undertaking her training contract at Gold Jennings Solicitors. While working her seat in Public Law, her team won the Legal Aid Team of the Year award at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards 2021.

Prior to joining Wilsons, Ornina briefly worked in the Homelessness team at Lawstop Solicitors, where she ran her own caseload of judicial review challenges against local authorities as well as administrative reviews.

Ornina is dedicated to helping vulnerable members of society obtain the essential support and remedies they are entitled to, and this has been the driving force throughout her higher education and career. She currently works on civil claims and judicial reviews on behalf of asylum seekers, migrants and other marginalised groups. This includes but is not limited to helping her client receive appropriate asylum support, compensation for breach of their human rights including unlawful immigration detention, age assessment disputes, and judicial review challenges of GPS tags or compensation following their removal.

In her spare time, Ornina is a member of Young Legal Aid Lawyers, and is also involved in an amateur choir.
