About Lizi Smart
Lizi is a Solicitor in the Immigration Department, supervised by Imogen Townley. She joined Wilsons in September 2020, initially in the billing team, and began working as a caseworker in January 2022. In February 2023, Lizi began her training contract in the Immigration Department and after passing the Solicitors Qualifying Exam in May 2025, qualified as a solicitor in June 2025.
Lizi works on immigration-related judicial review applications, including those relating to unlawful detention and removals, and conducts statutory appeals before the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal, primarily in asylum and deportation cases. She also carries out wide-ranging work on asylum claims, trafficking cases, family reunion applications, bail, settlement and Citizenship applications.
Prior to joining Wilsons, Lizi studied Molecular Biology at University College London and graduated with a first-class degree in 2017. She lived and worked in Yangon, Myanmar for two years and then spent six months working with various NGOs in Greece, providing emergency aid and helping to run safe spaces for asylum seekers residing in Immigration Reception Centres on the Greek islands.
Lizi volunteers at Micro Rainbow, providing immigration advice sessions for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.
