About Katya Novakovic

Katya studied English Literature and French at the University of Warwick, graduating in 2015. She spent a year working at Amnesty International’s International Secretariat before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law with Distinction in 2017. She spent 6 months interning in a Federal Defender Office in the United States, working on appeals for death-sentenced prisoners. She completed the Legal Practice Course with LLM in 2020 with Distinction.

Katya joined the Wilson’s Public Law team in June 2022 and represents clients in a range of cases to challenge state decisions and hold public bodies to account, including civil claims for compensation and judicial review. Prior to this she worked for several years at a large Legal Aid firm in London. She worked primarily in the Actions Against the Police team, bringing complaints and claims against police forces, prisons and other public authorities and acting in inquests for the bereaved families of people who have died after contact with the state. She also worked on community care and judicial review cases. She has experience working with vulnerable people, including detained clients and young people who have been victims of state abuse.
