About Giulia Tranchina

Giulia is a solicitor in our immigration department with expertise in asylum and human rights law. She obtained in 2007 a five-year degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Milano Bicocca with the top mark of 110 out of 110 cum laude. She achieved her Master’s degree with distinction in Human Rights Law at SOAS in 2008.

Giulia joined the firm in March 2009. After achieving her second degree in law and her LPC with distinction in 2013, she qualified as a solicitor in 2014. Having trained in immigration, family and public law, Giulia then practised in asylum, immigration and human rights work. She developed a solid experience in a wide range of complex asylum claims and appeals, including for unaccompanied minors and detained clients. Giulia has extensive experience of representing clients in judicial review claims involving the Dublin Regulations. Her client RK was one of the 2 successful Appellants in the landmark judgment on removals to Italy SM & Ors v SSHD (Dublin Regulation – Italy) [2018] UKUT 429 (IAC).

Giulia has special expertise and academic background in African politics. She collaborated in the preparation of the successful case of RT (Zimbabwe ) in the Supreme Court. She played a central role in exposing the human rights violations and inhuman conditions which refugees are suffering in detention centres in Libya, collaborating with Eritrean diaspora groups, UN agencies, Special Rapporteurs and international human rights organisations. Her work has been widely covered by UK and international media outlets.

In addition to her casework and strategic litigation, Giulia worked closely with charities supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children, and provided regular training at the Sante’ Refugee Mental Health Project charity and the former UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (now Rainbow Migration ). She has been a guest speaker at academic conferences on asylum on human rights issues at SOAS, at the Eritrean Orthodox Church, at the Zimbabwe MDC Forum, at Amnesty International annual report’s launch in Italy, and at the last Annual Charity Summit at Warwick University.

In 2022 Giulia worked for a year at Human Rights Watch conducting research and advocacy work in relation to migration and asylum policies in Europe. Between 2023 and 2025 she covered the role of the National Immigration Manager of the legal advice team at Freedom from Torture .

Giulia subsequently returned to work at Wilson Solicitors LLP building again a mixed private and legal aid practice including immigration, asylum and human rights cases. She is a Trustee of the Trauma Foundation South West (TFSW) , a charity delivering specialist psychotherapeutic treatment to vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers.
