About Aiya Nakash

Aiya joined Wilsons as a caseworker in the immigration department in November 2024.

Aiya studied Law (LLB) at the University of Bristol. Whilst at university, Aiya was Vice President of the University of Bristol’s Pro Bono Society. She also volunteered as a researcher the University of Bristol International Human Rights Implementation Centre, producing implementation reports to be used by the centre and other international human rights organisations. Following her studies, she completed a vacation scheme at Bhatt Murphy, shadowing and working with solicitors in the firm’s actions against public bodies and public law departments.

Aiya has experience working in human rights law firms on a predominantly legally aided basis. She worked initially in the immigration department of a human rights law firm working on cases including initial asylum claims and appeals. Aiya then worked in Deighton Pierce Glynn’s public law department bringing challenges against government decisions through judicial review proceedings. Whilst at Deighton Pierce Glynn, Aiya worked on strategic challenges to Home Office policy, including on litigation leading to the increase in additional weekly payments for pregnant women seeking asylum and their young children.

Aiya has also volunteered as a caseworker on a pro bono basis for The Unity Project and Intervene.

Aiya has a mixed immigration and public law caseload reflecting her interest in the intersection between immigration and public law, particularly the duties of the Home Office and the Ministry of Defence as public bodies and under the Equality Act 2010.
