About Afshar Adam
Afshar completed his academic legal training in 2011. He joined the immigration department at Wilsons in 2019. He was admitted as a solicitor in November 2022.
An experienced solicitor in the Immigration Department, Afshar provides comprehensive legal services across immigration law, assisting individuals, families and businesses with their immigration needs.
Afshar provides advice in a wide range of immigration matters including personal and family immigration advising on family visas, the EU Settlement Scheme, ancestry visas, and right of abode claims. He expertly guides clients through work and business Immigration matters such as Skilled Worker visas, Global Talent visas, Start-up and Innovator visas as well as temporary worker visas for charity workers and the creative industries. Afshar also advises businesses on sponsor licence applications.
Afshar has extensive experience representing individuals in asylum claims, humanitarian protection applications, and family reunion cases for refugees, supporting applications for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), settlement under the 10-year Long Residence Rule, and family or dependent settlement applications, and providing guidance on British citizenship applications including naturalisation, registration of children, and dual nationality issues.
He has a interest in representing clients in human rights-based applications, appeals before the Immigration and Asylum Tribunal, judicial reviews, and handling complex and specialist immigration matters such as applications outside the immigration rules, revocation of leave to remain, and exclusion order challenges.
Prior to joining Wilsons, Afshar developed his experience in the field as an immigration and public law caseworker. He also has extensive skills developed in civil litigation, working part of the legal team which represented hundreds of claimants in a complex long-running class action for construction workers that were secretly blacklisted by major construction companies in the UK. The claimants obtained a multi-million pound settlement and a full public apology.
Afshar also assisted in a landmark Employment Appeals Tribunal case pertaining to caste discrimination and the Equality Act, and a pro bono case in which 35 low paid Spanish-speaking cleaners on zero-hour contracts obtained £40,000 in unpaid wages from a global advertising agency.
Afshar has volunteered with the Anti Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit where he assisted ATLEU lawyers in representing victims of trafficking in publically funded immigration, asylum, housing and compensation matters. He currently volunteers with the Body and Soul charity and its free legal advice clinic.
